Vice President, Marketing
About the role
Who We Are
SmartRent (NYSE: SMRT) is revolutionizing how people live and work with the industry's only end-to-end platform designed for the rental housing industry. By uniting purpose-built software, integrated hardware and full implementation and support in one ecosystem, we help owners and operators simplify operations, cut costs and deliver exceptional resident experiences. Recognized by Deloitte, HousingWire and the PropTech Breakthrough Awards, SmartRent is shaping the future of property technology and redefining what it means to make rental housing smarter.
Job Description
The Vice President, Marketing is SmartRent's senior marketing executive and the owner of our entire marketing strategy: brand, narrative, digital, demand, product marketing, and the team and partners who bring it to market. You'll define how SmartRent shows up to customers, partners, and the multifamily industry, and you'll be accountable for marketing's contribution to pipeline, bookings, and revenue growth.
This is a role for a builder who thinks like an executive and still knows how to get into the work. SmartRent is entering its next chapter, and we're looking for a leader who has elevated a brand and modernized a company's digital presence before, and who can do it again at the pace and with the rigor a public company requires. You'll set the vision, make the investment calls, and earn the trust of the CEO, CRO, and executive team as a true strategic partner.
You'll inherit a talented core team and agency partners, with the opportunity to shape and build the organization around you as the function grows. We value leaders who create outsized impact with a lean team, invest deliberately, and scale headcount when results justify it.
This role reports to the Chief Revenue Officer, serves as a member of the extended leadership team, and is based in the Phoenix metro area (preferred).
Responsibilities
Brand and market narrative
- Own SmartRent's brand strategy end to end: positioning, architecture, identity, voice, and the story we tell customers, prospects, and partners.
- Evolve the SmartRent brand as the company and platform grow, leading cross-functional brand initiatives from strategy and research through creative development, internal alignment, and market rollout.
- Partner closely with Corporate Communications so SmartRent's customer-facing brand, messaging, and launches stay aligned with the broader corporate narrative.
- Build SmartRent's authority as the category leader in smart rental housing through industry content, trade presence, awards, and industry analyst relations, in coordination with Corporate Communications.
Digital experience and web
- Own SmartRent's digital presence as a primary growth channel: website strategy, information architecture, content, UX, SEO, and conversion rate optimization.
- Lead major digital initiatives end to end, including redesigns, replatforming, and content migrations, in partnership with Product, Engineering, and agency partners.
- Drive SmartRent's discoverability across traditional and AI-driven search (SEO, GEO/AEO), so we show up where operators research and buy.
Demand generation and performance marketing
- Build and run a full-funnel revenue marketing engine for our ICP of multifamily and single-family rental owners and operators, with an emphasis on enterprise accounts (3,000+ units).
- Lead integrated, account-based programs across paid media, LinkedIn, paid search, retargeting, email, and content, measured by target-account engagement, pipeline, and bookings rather than lead volume.
- Own performance marketing strategy and spend, including channel mix, testing, and reallocation based on results.
- Partner with Sales and Account Management on expansion and cross-sell programs across our installed base, driving adoption of new hardware and SaaS offerings.
Product marketing and go-to-market
- Lead positioning, messaging, pricing input, and launch strategy for new products and features across our hardware-enabled SaaS platform, from launch planning through sales enablement.
- Build and maintain competitive intelligence, battlecards, and win/loss insight, using Gong and customer research to sharpen messaging and equip Sales.
- Translate complex hardware, software, and financial value (NOI, operating savings, resident experience) into clear, compelling stories for operators, asset managers, and executives.
Customer, industry, and field marketing
- Oversee field and event marketing, including the annual program (NAA, OpTech, Blueprint, and regional and association sponsorships), with every investment tied to pipeline and measured for ROI.
- Build customer marketing and advocacy programs, including case studies, references, and customer voice, that turn SmartRent's customer base into a growth asset.
- Partner with Corporate Communications to shape SmartRent's thought leadership and presence across the multifamily and proptech ecosystem.
Marketing operations, analytics, and AI
- Own the marketing technology stack and lifecycle across Salesforce, Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (Pardot)/SFMC, ZoomInfo, and related tools, in partnership with RevOps.
- Establish multi-touch attribution and reporting that ties marketing to prospecting pipeline (units and ARR), opportunity progression, and bookings.
- Build an AI-native marketing function: AI-assisted content at scale, lead scoring and enrichment, and automation that increases output without increasing headcount.
Leadership, budget, and team
- Set the annual marketing plan and own the full marketing budget, making clear allocation and reallocation decisions based on return.
- Present marketing strategy and performance to the CRO, CEO, and executive team, and contribute to board-level discussions as needed.
- Lead and develop the marketing team, including the Senior Manager, Growth Marketing and the Director, Industry Strategy, coaching each toward greater strategic ownership.
- Design the future marketing organization, recruit top talent, and set strategy for and manage agency partners, holding them accountable for results.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of B2B marketing experience, including 5+ years as the head of marketing or a VP-level leader owning a multi-discipline marketing function.
- Track record of owning marketing strategy end to end, across brand, digital, demand generation, product marketing, and field marketing, with accountability for pipeline and revenue outcomes.
- Has led at least one comprehensive rebrand or brand repositioning from strategy through launch, including identity, messaging, internal alignment, and market rollout.
- Has led a major website redesign or replatform end to end, from strategy and agency selection through launch, migration, and post-launch performance.
- Proven performance and demand marketing leadership in long, complex enterprise sales cycles, with results measured in pipeline, bookings, and ARR.
- Hands-on command of ABM strategy, multi-touch attribution, and revenue-influence reporting in Salesforce.
- Experience marketing a complex, technical offering, ideally hardware-enabled software or a platform with multiple products and buyers.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver outsized results with a lean team and agency model, investing in headcount deliberately as the business scales.
- Experience building and developing high-performing teams, coaching leaders toward strategic ownership rather than task execution.
- Direct ownership of a marketing budget and agency relationships, with a record of reallocating spend based on performance.
- Executive presence and credibility with C-suite and board audiences, and strong partnership with Sales, RevOps, and Product leadership.
- World-class written and verbal communication skills, with a sharp eye for brand, creative, and storytelling quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in proptech, SaaS, or IoT, ideally marketing to multifamily owners, operators, or single-family rental operators.
- Public company experience, including partnering with Corporate Communications, Investor Relations, and Legal to keep marketing aligned with company communications.
- Experience leading marketing through a company inflection point, such as a new platform strategy, category expansion, or brand transformation.
- Direct management of LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Google Ads, and GA4, with the ability to read and direct the work.
- Familiarity with intent-data platforms (6sense, Demandbase) and conversational marketing tools (Drift, Qualified).
- Experience using Gong or similar conversation intelligence to shape messaging and content.
- AI fluency, including AI-assisted content workflows, AI-driven scoring and enrichment, automation that incorporates LLMs (for example, Zapier + LLM or MCAE AI rules), and GEO/AEO optimization.
