Ad Content Policy

This policy governs every paid advertisement shown on Connecting Odds, across feed, profile and news placements. It exists to keep the platform trustworthy for job seekers and professionals, and to keep advertising on Connecting Odds inside the advertising, employment and consumer-protection rules that apply to it.

Policy version: 2026-09-04. Advertisers accept this exact version at campaign checkout, and we re-request acceptance when it materially changes.

1. Scope

This policy applies to advertisers, their agencies, and anyone submitting creative, copy, destination URLs or targeting on their behalf. It sits alongside our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use Policy. Where this policy and another document differ on an advertising question, this policy governs.

2. Prohibited content

2.1 Illegal or fraudulent content

  • Ads for products or services that are illegal in the jurisdiction where the ad is shown.
  • Deceptive claims, fake job postings, and “get rich quick”, pyramid or multi-level-marketing recruitment framed as employment.
  • Phishing, malware, or ads whose destination URL does not match the stated advertiser.

2.2 Discriminatory content or targeting

No ad, job-related or otherwise, may exclude or discourage applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and over), disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic. This applies to the ad’s creative and copy and to its targeting configuration (see section 4). Content that disparages a protected group is prohibited outright.

2.3 Adult, gambling, weapons and regulated substances

  • No sexually explicit or suggestive content.
  • No gambling, betting or real-money gaming advertising. We enforce this category with particular strictness: our name sits close to sports-betting terminology, and a false association there is a specific reputational risk for this platform.
  • No firearms, ammunition or weapon sales.
  • No alcohol, tobacco, vaping, cannabis or prescription-drug advertising without prior legal review of the specific jurisdiction’s rules.

2.4 Misleading employer or advertiser representation

  • The advertiser and hiring organisation shown must be the real, verifiable entity paying for the ad — not a shell name, and not a recruiting agency presenting itself as the end employer without disclosure.
  • No fabricated urgency (“only 2 spots left”) without a factual basis.
  • No unverified salary figures, guaranteed-income promises or earnings claims.

2.5 Intellectual property

Advertisers must own or hold a valid licence for every image, logo and line of copy they submit, and confirm this with the content-ownership attestation at checkout. Third-party trademarks and logos, including competitor logos in comparative ads, may not be used without authorisation.

2.6 Political and controversial content

Political candidate, ballot-measure and issue-advocacy advertising is not accepted. This category carries disclosure obligations in most jurisdictions that a self-serve advertising product is not equipped to enforce, and we will revisit it only with dedicated legal and compliance review.

3. Placement creative rules

The “Promoted” label sits in the same position as the equivalent label on organic content, so an ad is never mistakable for something a member posted. Ads are never inserted into search results or into match ranking.

4. Targeting restrictions

  • Targeting for job-related, housing-related and credit-related ads may not include, or act as a proxy for, age, gender, race, national origin, religion, disability status, or family or marital status. This is enforced in our campaign builder, not only in this policy text.
  • Narrow geographic targeting (postal-code level or similar) combined with interest or affiliation categories that historically correlate with protected classes triggers manual review before approval, even where no protected-class field was used. Proxy discrimination is treated the same as direct discrimination.
  • A minimum audience floor of 300 people applies, so targeting can never be narrow enough to single out an individual.

5. Review process

  • Automated pre-screen on submission: banned-word list, image moderation for violence, nudity and hate symbols, and a destination-URL safety check against malware and phishing blocklists.
  • Manual review of every campaign. Job-adjacent advertising stays under manual review indefinitely because of the discrimination exposure described above, even as other categories move to automated approval.
  • Turnaround: campaigns are reviewed within one business day. If we cannot meet that on a given submission, the advertiser is told before the deadline passes.
  • Rejections state a specific reason drawn from this policy, with a path to edit and resubmit. “Violates our guidelines” on its own is not an acceptable rejection reason.
  • Post-approval monitoring: every ad carries a report control. Multiple reports pause the campaign into re-review, and the advertiser is notified immediately.

6. Enforcement

  • First violation: the ad is rejected or removed and the advertiser is notified with the reason.
  • Repeated or severe violations — fraud, discrimination, illegal content — result in account-level advertising suspension. We reserve the right to withhold remaining ad budget where a campaign is stopped for a policy violation; this is stated in the advertiser terms so it is not a surprise at the refund stage.
  • We may reject or remove any ad at our discretion, including ads that meet the letter of this policy but are inconsistent with platform quality and brand standards.

7. Questions and appeals

Appeals and policy questions go to ads@connectingodds.com. Trust and safety reports about a specific ad are handled through the report control on the ad itself. Ad rates and placement multipliers are published on our pricing page.
