Senior Product manager
About the role
About the Team & Role
Expedia Group's Payments team is hiring a Senior Product Manager to own the traveler payment experience, covering how travelers discover, select, and use payment methods at checkout. You'll set strategy, prioritization, and experimentation for payment selection, flexibility, authorization performance, and recovery across web, mobile web, and native apps. The role blends deep payments expertise with AI product judgment to make payments simple, transparent, and trusted at global scale. You'll partner closely with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Finance, Risk, Legal, Operations, and brand teams.
What You'll Do
- Define and execute the product vision and roadmap for payment selection, payment method presentation, payment flexibility, and checkout interactions.
- Own the payment marketplace experience: decide which methods (cards, wallets, BNPL, local payment methods, installments) to surface, where, and for whom, by traveler, market, device, and trip context.
- Improve checkout conversion by removing friction across payment entry, authentication, authorization, error handling, retries, and recovery.
- Build a rigorous experimentation program, from hypothesis and A/B testing through measurement and scaled rollout of winners.
- Define and deliver AI capabilities such as personalized payment recommendations, intelligent routing, failure prediction, next-best-action recovery, and anomaly detection, partnering with Data Science and Engineering on model evaluation, explainability, privacy, bias, and safe rollout.
- Partner with Payments platform teams to ensure reliable, scalable, reusable capabilities across pay-in, authentication, orchestration, and payment status.
- Use quantitative and qualitative insights (conversion, payment and authentication success, support contacts, customer feedback) to prioritize opportunities and measure impact.
- Balance traveler experience against cost, authorization performance, fraud and risk, regulatory needs, and operational efficiency, while aligning multiple EG brands and communicating strategy, risks, and decisions to senior leaders.
Minimum Qualifications
- 8 + years of product management experience, with a strong track record building, scaling, or transforming payment products.
- Expert knowledge of the payments ecosystem: payment methods, PSPs, authorization and declines, 3DS, tokenization, wallets, routing, refunds, and failure recovery.
- Proven success designing and optimizing high-converting checkout and payment-selection experiences across web, mobile web, and native apps, using experimentation, analytics, and customer research.
- Experience applying AI/ML to customer-facing products (personalization, decisioning, fraud prevention, optimization), with practical understanding of model evaluation, explainability, privacy, bias, and responsible rollout.
- Excellent communication and ability to lead through influence in a matrixed organization, with strong analytical skills, product judgment on trade-offs, and a bias toward measurable outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in travel, ecommerce, marketplaces, fintech, or other high-scale transactional businesses.
- Experience with payment orchestration, merchant-of-record models, payment performance optimization, or payment method expansion.
- Experience taking AI-powered products from problem definition and model evaluation through launch, monitoring, and measurable business impact.
- Familiarity with payment economics (processing costs, FX, rebates, routing, vendor performance) and global delivery across local payment methods, currencies, and regulations.
- Experience building products across multiple brands, regions, or business models, and improving post-booking payment experiences (payment updates, scheduled payments, failure recovery, payment status).
