The Opportunity
Shape media understanding of one of the world's most important technology companies at a time when semiconductors sit at the center of technology policy, international trade, national security, industrial policy and geopolitics.
Introduction to the job
ASML is one of the world's leading manufacturers of chip-making equipment and a technology leader in semiconductor lithography. Our technology enables chipmakers to produce increasingly advanced semiconductors that power the digital world.
ASML operates at the intersection of highly complex technology, global business, national security, industrial policy and international trade. As interest in the semiconductor industry continues to grow, clear, accurate and credible media engagement is essential to helping stakeholders understand ASML, our technology and our role in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
We are seeking an experienced media relations professional to strengthen our presence in Washington, D.C. and lead communications on some of the most consequential issues affecting the global semiconductor industry.
Job mission
Your mission is to lead media engagement in Washington, D.C. at the intersection of semiconductors, technology, public policy, trade and geopolitics. You will build and maintain trusted relationships with journalists covering technology, semiconductors, business, economic policy, national security, international trade and foreign policy.
You will develop proactive media strategies, advise senior leaders and partner closely with ASML's U.S. Government Affairs and global Communications teams. A critical part of this role is translating highly complex technical, business and policy topics into clear and credible communications for external audiences.
This is a communications and media relations role, not a lobbying or government relations position. You will work closely with Government Affairs to communicate complex policy developments and ASML's perspective to media audiences.
Role and responsibilities
- Serve as a senior media relations lead for ASML in Washington, D.C., with a focus on semiconductors, technology policy, trade, national security, industrial policy and geopolitics.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with U.S. and international journalists covering semiconductors, technology, business, trade, economic policy, national security and international affairs.
- Develop and execute proactive media strategies that support ASML's business objectives, reputation and government affairs priorities.
- Monitor developments across the semiconductor industry, ASML's technology and the policy environment; identify emerging media opportunities and reputational risks and advise stakeholders accordingly.
- Develop and review media statements, talking points, Q&A, briefing materials and other communications for complex or sensitive technology and policy issues, including export controls, trade measures, industrial policy and supply-chain resilience.
- Arrange and support interviews, background briefings and other engagements between journalists and ASML executives or subject-matter experts.
- Prepare and advise senior executives for media engagement on complex technical, business, policy and geopolitical topics.
- Partner closely with U.S. Government Affairs, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Communications and the global Media Relations team to align messaging and communications strategy.
- Provide communications colleagues with insight into U.S. policy and media developments and help increase understanding of government affairs and geopolitical topics across the global communications organization.
- Measure and evaluate media activities against clear communication and business objectives and use insights to refine strategy.
Education and experience
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Significant professional experience in media relations, strategic communications, public affairs communications or journalism, including direct engagement with national, international, business or technology media.
- Demonstrated experience communicating about the semiconductor industry or another highly complex technology sector. Candidates must be able to understand technical concepts, business implications and policy considerations and translate them accurately for media and external audiences.
- Experience communicating on public policy, government affairs, international trade, national security, industrial policy and/or geopolitical issues.
- Strong writing experience, including messaging, media statements, talking points, Q&A, briefing materials and executive communications.
- Experience advising senior leaders on communications strategy, reputation or sensitive external issues.
- Strong stakeholder-management skills and demonstrated ability to influence and build trust across a complex, international organization.
- Ability to process new information quickly, exercise sound judgment and adapt communications strategies in uncertain or fast-moving situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
- Direct semiconductor industry experience and knowledge of the global semiconductor ecosystem.
- Existing or demonstrated ability to build relationships with Washington, D.C.-based national and international media, particularly journalists covering semiconductors, technology, trade, national security, economic policy or international affairs.
- Experience in semiconductor equipment, advanced manufacturing, AI infrastructure, aerospace/defense, telecommunications, hardware or another highly technical and globally regulated industry.
- Working knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing, equipment, global supply chains and the policy environment surrounding the industry.
- Experience working in a multinational technology company, trade association, government/public affairs environment, communications agency or major media organization.
- Experience managing high-profile, sensitive or issues-driven media communications.
Skills
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and an ability to connect communications objectives to broader business and policy priorities.
- High technical curiosity and the ability to quickly learn complex semiconductor technology and industry dynamics.
- Ability to translate highly technical, business and policy content into meaningful, accurate and engaging language for different audiences.
- Confident executive presence and strong interpersonal influence; builds trust with journalists, communications colleagues, senior business leaders and cross-functional partners.
- Collaborative and culturally aware, with experience working across regions, functions and time zones.
