Prudential Reporting & Banking Accountant H/F
About the role
Our vision
About us
Why is this role important for Pennylane?
Pennylane is creating Pennylane Financial Services (PFS), a subsidiary seeking ACPR authorisation as a payment institution and financing company, to serve its 1.6 million SMB customers base.
- This is a 0-to-1 role: you will lay the foundations of PFS's accounting model, controls and reporting as the business is built.
- You ensure the reliability of PFS's financial information, from product events and accounting entries through to financial and prudential reporting.
- You check daily that client funds are safeguarded and that PFS meets its own funds requirements and applicable prudential ratios. You flag risks early and help the Head of Finance anticipate capital needs.
You report to Maxime Leclercq, GM PFS, and functionally to @Raphaël Nahum, Head of Finance, on accounting standards and methods aligned with group finance.
How will you contribute to the project?
You build from scratch the accounting model and controls with Product and Tech, then run daily accounting until volumes justify a dedicated operator. You own the figures and accounting decisions, and prepare the accounting-based prudential reports. You collaborate with our Regulatory Lead, who oversees reporting deadlines, completeness and reviews, the reports before submission. You would be a great fit if:
- You can work with incomplete information and make decisions, assumptions and open questions clear.
- You document accounting decisions and are able to defend them internally and externally, including to statutory auditors and the ACPR.
What will your day-to-day responsibilities be?
Build
- Design and test payment and financing accounting schemes in the Core Banking System, the accounting interpreter, working closely with Product and Tech teams
- Document the accounting impact of each product before launch.
- Reconcile the ledger, general ledger, bank accounts and reports. Keep each reported figure traceable to its transactions.
- Set up RUBA and COREP reporting, including dry runs, with the Regulatory Lead.
Operational accounting
- Reconcile payment accounts (eg. SCT, SDD, cards, cheques) against the settlement account daily. Check safeguarding coverage, keep evidence and flag shortfalls.
- Check own funds requirements, applicable ratios and available buffers daily.
- Forecast the amount and timing of capital needs with the Head of Finance and FP&A
- Resolve and document exceptions.
- Account for doubtful receivables, provisions, write-offs and reversals.
- Prepare closing entries, reconcile intercompany balances with Pennylane SAS and support statutory closings.
Strategic contributions
- Prepare the accounting, exposure and provisioning materials for the committee that sets credit risk appetite, overall exposure and counterparty limits.
- Quantify the accounting, provisioning and capital impact of new products, pricing or volume scenarios before launch.
- Alert the Head of Finance early on capital needs, prudential constraints and standards changes (PCEC, ACPR) that affect the model.
- Work closely with Pennylane's Accounting Manager and the FP&A team to align on definitions, key metrics, and group procedures
Profile we are looking for Must-have:
- At least 6-7 years of experience, ideally in financial services audit followed by accounting in a payment institution, financing company or bank.
- Strong PCEC, doubtful receivables and provisioning knowledge.
- Able to both build the accounting model and run daily reconciliations, exceptions and closings.
- Comfortable working with incomplete information and owning accounting decisions.
- Able to query large datasets independently.
- Works well with Engineering, Product, Data, Operations and the Regulatory Lead, with clear responsibilities.
- Professional French and English: documentation and regulatory exchanges are in French; teams work in English.
Nice-to-have:
- DEC or equivalent.
- SQL.
- Core banking or accounting interpreter experience.
- Experience building accounting and controls for a new entity or licensing programme.
- ACPR reporting experience (RUBA, COREP).
Recruitment Process
- Interview (30-45 min) with Simon, Senior Recruiter
- Interview (1h) with Maxime, General Manager and Raphaël Nahum (Head of Finance)
- Case Study (1h30) with Raphaël, Sabrina and Maxime
- Last round with Laurent and Felix (45 min)
