Legal Engineer
Why Harvey
Role Overview
What You’ll Do
- Work directly with lawyers at current and prospective customers in Japan to uncover workflow pain points, recommend solutions, and show how Harvey fits into real legal work.
- Serve as the voice of the customer, translating feedback and legal workflow insights, including those specific to Japanese legal practice and Japanese-language needs, into concrete, lawyer-ready product direction.
- Partner closely with product, engineering, sales, and marketing to shape Harvey's roadmap and ensure the product evolves in ways lawyers trust and adopt.
- Build and refine product demonstrations, workflows, and use cases in Japanese and English that reflect how Japanese legal teams actually work, including how AI is changing that work.
- Introduce new capabilities in a way that's tailored, credible, and compelling for each customer, continuously raising the bar for how Harvey is deployed.
- Provide competitive and market intelligence on the Japanese and wider APAC legal tech landscape.
- Lay the foundation for Harvey's presence in Japan and strengthen its reputation across APAC as a credible, substantive, and forward-looking AI partner to the legal industry.
What You Have
You move confidently through uncertainty, operate at speed, and ship solutions that work, iterating quickly with lawyers, sales teams, and product partners to help Harvey and its customers win. You bring deep curiosity about AI's potential to transform legal work, a bias towards action, and the creativity to solve problems nobody has cracked yet.
- Based in Tokyo and eligible to work in Japan.
- Qualified Japanese lawyer (弁護士) registered with the Japan Federation of Bar Associations (日本弁護士連合会).
- At least 3 years of experience as a qualified lawyer at a top-tier Japanese law firm and/or in-house, with strong exposure to complex legal workflows and client expectations.
- Fluency in Japanese and English, with the ability to operate seamlessly across both in professional settings.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and make confident, well-reasoned recommendations.
- Ability to operate across legal, product, and sales contexts, translating between stakeholders with clarity and precision.
- Executive presence and relationship-building skills, with comfort engaging partners, senior associates, in-house counsel, and legal leadership.
- Sales, customer-facing, or law firm business development experience is a plus, particularly where you've helped shape solutions rather than just present them.
