Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and do meaningful work, you're in the right place.

Why Your Role Matters

The Governance Officer provides governance support across a portfolio of university committees, helping to ensure effective decision-making and compliance with governance frameworks. Working closely with executive stakeholders, committee members and colleagues across the University, you'll provide governance advice, coordinate committee activities, support governance projects and contribute to the ongoing development of governance processes, policies and best practice. The role offers the opportunity to build strong relationships across the University while playing an important part in supporting UNSW's governance obligations. The role reports to the Senior Manager, Governance and has no direct reports. The position will have significant working relationships with team members in Governance, Legal and Compliance, members of the executive, committees, and the wider university community.

Your Focus

  • Providing governance and secretariat support for a portfolio of University committees, including agenda preparation, minute-taking and records management.
  • Liaising with committee members, senior leaders and key stakeholders to support effective committee operations.
  • Providing governance advice and assisting with the interpretation of governance frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • Drafting high-quality governance documentation including briefing notes, reports, executive summaries and committee papers.
  • Supporting and leading governance improvement initiatives and projects, including process reviews and implementation of new practices.
  • Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of governance policies, frameworks and decision-making processes.

Who You Are

You are a highly organised and collaborative governance professional who enjoys building strong stakeholder relationships, providing practical advice, and delivering high-quality outcomes in a complex environment.

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience in governance, committee administration, corporate affairs, legal, compliance, public sector or a related environment.
  • Experience supporting committees, boards or governance bodies, including preparing agendas, papers and minutes.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare accurate, concise and professional governance documentation.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to exercise discretion, judgement and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive matters.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft 365, with an interest in leveraging technology and AI-enabled tools such as Microsoft Copilot to improve efficiency and outcomes.
  • For higher-level candidates, demonstrated governance advisory, project management or company secretariat experience will be highly regarded.
