About our Employment Registers

Our Registers are for use by non-employees. Current employees should lodge their interest for additional hours/duties on the intranet Expression of Interest page. Registers provide a mechanism to recruit to casual vacancies. They may also be used to fill short, fixed term vacancies where normal recruitment processes are not practicable. For permanent and more lengthy fixed term vacancies, please look at the individual advertisements on www.jobs.tas.gov.au . This Register will remain open until

30 June 2028

and will be reviewed on a regular basis. Please note a fixed-term and casual employment register is not a vacancy and inclusion on a register does not guarantee any offer of employment will be made.

This Register

Applications are invited from Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives interested in being considered for fixed-term full time, part-time or casual employment periods within acute and sub-acute settings at the following locations:

  • Royal Hobart Hospital
  • Launceston General Hospital
  • North West Regional Hospital (Burnie)
  • Mersey Community Hospital (Latrobe)

Re-Fresher Program - Midwives

A new incentive to support experienced midwives who have had some time away but would like to rejoin the profession can now access Midwifery Incentives through People and Culture. If you have Aphra registration and require support to return to practice, you can now access a subsidised re-fresher program through to the online Australian College of Midwives package (to be completed prior to commencement) and 152 hours of supported practice to support and welcome you back into the profession. As part of the Refresher program, you will develop an individualised learning plan and have identified supervisors to support your professional objectives. At the completion of your hours, you will continue to be supported for a twelve month period and assessed for change of employment status to permanent in accordance with clause 12. of Employment Direction No.1. Essential Requirements

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

OR

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and as a Registered Midwife

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction check in the following areas:

a) Crimes of violence; b) Sex related offences; c) Serious drug offences; and d) Crimes involving dishonesty.

  1. Identification check.
  1. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.

Please note

For some roles you may be required to hold a current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration. You will be notified if you are required to obtain this prior to commencing employment.
