The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) will from time to time require the services of employees for specified fixed-term and relief basis in a number of skill areas and disciplines. Such appointments fill a valuable role in complementing the existing permanent workforce. The register is not a vacancy and inclusion on the register does not guarantee employment. Working with us will give you the opportunity to grow, explore and develop while making a real difference in the lives of children and young people. Where a vacancy occurs the Specialist VET Teacher Fixed Term and Relief Employment Register will be examined to identify those persons who possess the necessary knowledge, skills, currency and qualifications to undertake the duties of the vacancy and who will be available to work.

Fixed-term

DECYP invites applications from those interested in teaching vacancies of up to one year duration to have their interest recorded on the Specialist VET Teacher Fixed-term Register. Where vacancies are identified a merit-based selection process will be undertaken. The selection process may involve formal interviews and background checks. All appointments to fixed-term Specialist VET Teacher positions within the Department will only be made from those applicants listed on the register.

Relief

Persons interested in relief teaching (short-term employment on a day-to-day basis up to and including 20 consecutive days), should also register for Relief work, selecting 'relief' in Work Preferences on the application form. Please note: The fixed-term and relief employment register is not a vacancy and inclusion on a register does not guarantee any offer of employment will be made.

Statement of Duties

Please refer to the statement of duties for more information and when providing an explanation of how your industry knowledge/experience, and VET teaching skills fit the role on the application form. Essential Requirements

Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status - Employment)

Current certificate of registration; or provisional registration; or limited authority to teach granted by the Teachers Registration Board (Tasmania) in accordance with the provisions of the Teachers Registration Act 2000)

Meet the requirements of the Credential Policy under the 2025 Standards for RTOs by holding one of the following

TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor,

TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment,

TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment,

A diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education or vocational education and training.

A secondary teaching qualification

and

one of the following credentials:

TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set, or

TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set or its successor, or

TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set or its successor.

Desirable Requirements

Experience in a Vocational Education and Training environment.
