Senior IT Professional – Medical Devices
About the role
Medical Device Operations & Support
- Serve as a senior technology point of coordination for medical devices deployed across Primary Care clinics.
- Coordinate new device installations, replacements, upgrades, configuration changes, and technology refresh activities across clinics, vendors, and enterprise technology teams.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex medical-device issues impacting providers and clinical staff, bringing together the appropriate teams to drive issues through resolution.
- Coordinate with device manufacturers and third-party vendors for technical support, maintenance, upgrades, and escalations.
- Ensure implementation and support activities are planned to minimize disruption to clinic operations and patient care.
Internal medical-device requirements specifically call for documented operational and maintenance processes, certification where software or drivers are installed, setup/configuration documentation, functional testing, and evaluation of major firmware or software releases.
Cross-Enterprise Coordination
- Act as the connective point across clinic operations, infrastructure, network, security, endpoint technology, application teams, procurement, vendors, and other enterprise partners.
- Establish clear ownership and drive cross-functional activities where resolution requires multiple technology or business teams.
- Facilitate technical discussions, escalate blockers, and ensure issues do not stall because ownership spans organizational boundaries.
- Maintain visibility of open device-related issues, dependencies, risks, and upcoming activities.
Security, Compliance & Risk Remediation
- Partner with Enterprise Information Protection and other risk/compliance teams to ensure medical devices remain aligned with enterprise security and technology requirements.
- Drive medical-device VITs, IOPs, vulnerabilities, and compliance findings toward remediation and timely closure by coordinating accountable teams, vendors, evidence, and remediation activities.
- Track remediation commitments, escalate aging or blocked items, and ensure appropriate documentation is maintained.
- Coordinate response to device lifecycle risks, including vulnerabilities, unsupported software/firmware, manufacturer end-of-support, and required upgrades or replacements.
This is particularly important because medical devices are subject to asset-tracking, change-management, vulnerability-management, and lifecycle requirements, including identification and remediation of devices that are no longer manufacturer-supported.
For context, internal risk guidance defines VITs primarily around individual technology vulnerabilities, while IOPs address broader process or technology gaps and issues requiring more complex coordination. A VIT can also transition to an IOP when the issue is systemic or cannot be resolved by one team without significant coordination.
Medical Device Lifecycle Management
- Support medical devices throughout their lifecycle, from implementation and deployment through maintenance, upgrades, remediation, replacement, and retirement.
- Maintain awareness of the medical-device technology landscape across supported clinics, including ownership, connectivity, support status, and key dependencies.
- Coordinate major firmware, software, and configuration changes with appropriate vendor and enterprise teams.
- Proactively identify aging, unsupported, or higher-risk technology and coordinate remediation plans before clinical operations are impacted.
The internal standard requires clear technical and business ownership within asset tracking and specifically addresses significant device updates/configuration changes and unsupported devices as lifecycle risks.

- Installations and upgrades are coordinated with minimal disruption to clinic operations.
- Device issues have clear ownership and are driven to resolution rather than bouncing between teams.
- Vendors and enterprise technology teams are engaged quickly when issues require cross-functional intervention.
- Medical-device vulnerabilities, VITs, IOPs, and compliance gaps are actively managed and closed within required timelines.
- Device lifecycle risks are identified early and addressed proactively.
Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
