MLIR Compiler Engineering Graduate Intern (f/m/d)
The Role and Impact
As a Development Tools Software Engineering Graduate Intern, you will contribute to the creation and improvement of software tools that empower developers and engineers within and outside Intel. You will be involved in hands-on coding, debugging, and optimizing solutions that enhance productivity and performance. Your contributions will play a key role in advancing Intel's data-centric technologies and solutions.
Business Group
You will be joining the Data Center Group (DCG), a dynamic organization focused on delivering innovative technologies that drive the future of computing and connectivity. The group works on cutting-edge solutions for data centers, cloud environments, and enterprise networks, supporting Intel's broader goal of enabling a world driven by data.
Key Responsibilities
- Work on the design, implementation, testing, or optimization of compiler and runtime technologies.
- Develop and debug software using C or C++ within a large, collaborative codebase.
- Create and enhance tests, reproduce and resolve defects, analyze failures, and deliver reliable solutions.
- Evaluate functional correctness, compile-time behavior, runtime performance, or code quality relevant to the project.
- Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and project planning with team members and mentors.
- Document designs, experiments, findings, and lessons learned while presenting project outcomes to the team.
- Collaborate with open-source communities (where applicable) as part of your work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field (able to keep student status for at least 1 year).
- Graduate-level coursework or project experience in data structures and algorithms, plus at least one of: computer architecture, compiler construction, programming languages, or operating systems.
- Proficiency in programming with C or C++ within complex software systems
- Comfort with a Linux development environment: command-line tools, a debugger, Git, and build systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with LLVM or MLIR or with another compiler ecosystem such as Clang, SYCL/DPC++, Triton
- Working knowledge of Python - enough to read and extend test harnesses, build scripts, and benchmarking tools
- Research or development experience in CPU/GPU architectures, heterogeneous computing, AI/ML compilation, parallel programming, or performance optimization.
- Familiarity with AI frameworks (such as PyTorch), inference engines (such as vLLM or SGLang), and machine-learning model ecosystems (such as DeepSeek or Hugging Face) is a strong plus
- Contributions to open-source software or experience working in large collaborative codebases.
We are excited to empower you to grow your skills, work on impactful projects, and explore opportunities to contribute to technology that drives global innovation.
