Integrated Optics Researcher
Introduction to the job
Role and responsibilities
As integrated optics researcher in the Optics and Photonics group you will be responsible for developing cutting edge photonic solutions and demonstrating their applicability to our industrial context. You will work in a fast paced and multi-disciplinary environment. Your responsibility is to take ownership of the experimental and theoretical work with the rest of the team and drive feasibility studies towards clear conclusions. This includes contributions to the definition of the photonic system's architecture, design, specification, development, and documentation, as well as communication of the results towards various stakeholders. Using your technical knowledge, analytical thinking and people skills, you will work closely together with the team and other researchers at ASML.
You will join a project team whose mission is to focus on the development of photonic solutions for both our lithographic as well as our metrology tools. The job consists of:
- Understand optical sensing concepts and their photonic equivalent in an industrial context
- Understand requirements, architecture and technology development needs for the photonic solutions
- Design and specification of photonic integrated circuits
- Definition of experiments for evaluation of these PICs
- Design and specification of the experimental set-up for PIC characterization
- Work together with other researchers towards better understanding of the technologies
- Generate new ideas and solutions for current and future photonic solutions
Education and experience
- PhD in Electrical engineering, Physics or Applied Physics in the field of integrated photonics.
- Experience in developing photonic integrated circuits: design and specification.
- Experience in designing photonic components using numerical methods such as FDTD, EME, and FEM and optics modeling software (e.g. Lumerical).
- Experience with experimental evaluation of PICs
- Experience with designing the experimental set-up for characterization of PICs
- Experience with manufacturing of PICs and interacting with foundries.
Skills
Working at the cutting edge of tech, you'll always have new challenges and new problems to solve - and working together is the only way to do that. You won't work in a silo. Instead, you'll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you'll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You'll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems. To thrive in this job, you'll need the following skills:
- Deep understanding of optical sensing concepts and their integrated optics equivalent
- Proficiency modeling and designing photonic integrated circuits according to specifications
- Ability to conduct laboratory experiments and hands-on work
- Proactive team player focused on contributing toward common goals within a highly skilled team. Ability to propose practical and pragmatic solutions
- Good communicational skills
- Flexible, committed, result driven with the ability to plan and prioritize
- Self-propelling, showing initiative and drive, pragmatic attitude
- Strong analytical skills and drive for quality
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
