The opportunity

EY's FSO tax practice provides comprehensive and specialized tax assistance tailored to the unique needs of the real estate industry. You would join our tax professionals who are knowledgeable and experienced with varied and specialized facets of global investment fund, private equity fund and real estate fund taxation, including fund and organizational structuring, tax compliance, and on-call advice.

Your key responsibilities

As a senior in our real estate tax practice, you will be responsible for assisting with US tax compliance and tax advisory work for clients. You will work on key client issues in US federal, international and state and local taxation with a focus on implementing tax strategies that align with the client's business objectives. You will support US tax compliance accounts for real estate funds and/or private equity funds. You will analyze extensive portfolio of investments and relevant financial data, make appropriate tax adjustments, and prepare various federal tax returns (Form 1065. Form 1120, Form 1120-REIT) as well as Schedule K-1 & K-3s packages for the investors. You will be responsible for reading partnership agreements and private placement memorandums for US tax implications of items such as book and tax allocations, management and incentive fees. Additionally, you will run the day-to-day activities on the engagement accounts and coordinate with various teams spread across various locations.

Skills and attributes for success

Strong technical knowledge in the real estate tax area

Ability to analyze financial statements for tax character and identify book-to-tax differences

Ability to identify key tax technical issues and raise the appropriate questions before the work is sent for review to a manager and consult accordingly when necessary

Managing multiple work assignments and deadlines

Ability to teach and develop junior staff members on the team

Creating a positive and trusting environment where team members know each other and feel a part of their team

To qualify for the role you must have

A Bachelor's degree in an accounting, finance or a business discipline, and a minimum of 3 years of relevant tax experience; or an advanced degree in tax or law and a minimum of 2 years of relevant tax experience

A CPA (or equivalent internationally recognized accounting designation), Enrolled Agent and/or LLM certification is required

The ideal candidate would have experience serving clients in the real estate industry, which may include private equity funds, Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), Regulated Investment Companies (RICs) or other investment vehicles

Broad exposure to federal income taxation as well as state and local tax

Ideally, you’ll also have

Strong writing, research, analytical, communication and presentation skills

Ability to work in fast-paced professional services environment

Willingness and ability to travel, when necessary
