Commercial Data Scientist (Flip Team)
FLIP is the leading refurbished consumer electronics platform in Southeast Europe, operating across Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Greece. As part of the eMAG ecosystem, we are building the most trusted marketplace for pre-owned devices, and growing fast. We run a data-driven, performance-obsessed commercial operation, and we are looking for someone who loves turning complexity into clear decisions.
The Commercial Data Scientist acts actually as A Decision Intelligence operator. Are we taking the right decisions based on our strategy and objectives? Is the planning reflecting reality? What are the Risks & Opportunities and how can we tap them? Your role will build and consolidate models & frameworks that recommend the best way forward to hitting our targets and creating clarity for strategic choices & their trade-offs.
This is a high-exposure role. You will present to senior leadership, challenge assumptions with data, and engage directly with Commercial/Growth, Marketing, Supply, Finance, Operations, and Product & Tech to turn insight into action. You will also co-create the engine behind FLIP's forecasting capability: building the process, challenging the inputs and co-owning the accuracy.
What you'll have to do:
What this role is really about
The core of the job is triangulation: reconciling several independent angles on the same number until you can defend it and explain what moved it. We expect you to triangulate three sets of drivers:
- GMV: what is driving growth, or holding it back.
- Profitability: the quality of that growth, not just its size.
- Forecast accuracy: how much confidence we can put behind the plan.
Triangulate means you never take a single number at face value. You cross-check top-down against bottom-up, model against actuals, volume against price, and you can always say which driver moved and by how much (by having a clear view of correlation and causality between drivers).
Responsibilities
- Build and scale price elasticity models for the shop: conversion versus price at product level, feeding the Pricing engine directly, with clear guardrails on Gross Margin.
- Industrialize the Pricing engine: evolve it from its current Excel and Python setup toward an automated, product-level system.
- Design and execute pricing experiments and A/B tests across shops, and convert results into recommendations with quantified impact.
- Act as the sounding board for the Commercial team: pressure-test plans, assortment choices and price moves with data before they land.
- Be a sparring partner to the Demand/Growth team: challenge and sharpen the demand and pricing thinking behind the growth plan, not just report on it.
- Generate insights on elasticity, customer behavior and market dynamics per market, using fair like-for-like comparisons.
- Establish best practices for analytics, experimentation and AI usage, including automated reporting against budget and current forecast.
- Build models and frameworks that make trade-offs explicit: price versus volume, category mix versus margin, promotional cost versus incremental units.
- Act as a trusted analytical partner to growth, marketing, supply, finance, and product leadership, and navigate competing priorities across them.
What makes you a good fit:
- 5+ years in data science / commercial analysis, business intelligence, management consulting, or a similar role in a data-intensive environment.
- A quantitative degree (Machine Learning, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related).
- Strong foundations in statistics, predictive modeling and machine learning.
- Hands-on proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Proven experience in time-series forecasting (modeling, feature engineering, evaluation at scale).
- A/B testing and experimental design experience with measurable business impact.
- Daily use of AI tools in your workflow. FLIP runs Claude Enterprise across the company; we expect you to build with it, not around it.
- A proactive, self-starting mindset with end-to-end ownership of your domain.
- Strong stakeholder management: you can hold your ground in a commercial debate and explain what a model implies for the P&L to senior leadership, in plain language.
What you can expect:
- A rare opportunity to be a key commercial voice in one of SEE's most exciting tech companies.
- High autonomy and direct impact on decisions that shape the business.
- A culture that values analysis over gut feel and moves fast when the data is clear.
What we've prepared for you:
- The opportunity to join a startup in hypergrowth which brings a unique learning experience;
- An important role in shaping and creating the Flip products and services which will impact the lives of millions of consumers in Europe;
- You will be part of a team that encourages you to be successful and you will enjoy a young and dynamic work environment;
- A modern headquarters thoughtfully designed to support your hybrid way of work;
- Your work will promote a more sustainable economy with an incredible impact in our environment;
- We really hope that you won't need it, but we have prepared for you a medical subscription @ Regina Maria or Medicover
- You can chose your own benefits, by using the 600 lei amount on benefit.ro platform.
