What’s   the role

Operating in a highly complex Production Sharing Contract (PSC) environment, SMEP engages in the exploration, development and production of oil and natural gas resources with our JV partners and PETRONAS. This role provides exposure to Group and statutory reporting, financial controls, systems, and process excellence within the Shell Control Framework. Reporting Accountant reports directly to the SMEP LEC. The role will be part of the pool of accountants supporting SMEP with scope continuously defined based on value and risk. The team interfaces closely with Business Finance, Group Reporting, Tax, Treasury, FO processes, Legal, auditors, company secretary, and business stakeholders, ensuring high‑quality reporting, governance, and insights.

What   you’ll   be doing

• Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and review month‑end activities (including journals, capex, leases, depreciation, etc) while adhering to SOD requirement. Lead Group and statutory reporting and other regulatory submissions (e.g., Payments to Government Reporting, 20-F Annual Report, government and local regulatory requirements, annual D&R calibration, ARPR, etc), ensuring accuracy, IFRS/Group policy compliance, and local regulatory alignment. • Management Information (MI): Review period‑end results, prepare insightful commentary, ensure MI accuracy and timeliness, and resolve recurring data and reporting issues. • Control and Financial Compliance: Operate and review SOX and internal controls per Group requirements including Work Instructions where applicable, safeguarding value and ensuring compliance with accounting policies. • Balance Sheet Governance: Maintain robust balance sheet integrity through timely preparation, detailed review, and substantiation of balance sheet accounts in line with Group accounting policies and control requirements. Proactively identify, investigate, working with stakeholders to resolve reconciling items. • Financial Accounting Advisory & Judgement: Advise on the application of Group Financial Reporting Manual (GFRM) and IFRS, providing accounting guidance on Accounting Notes, Options, and Dispensations. Personally drive the correct accounting outcomes for material financial accounting events, including impairments, Decommissioning & Restoration (D&R), and accounting treatments for Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestments (MA&D). • Legal Entity Stewardship (LEC Support): Support LEC responsibilities for Malaysia Upstream entities, act as focal point for entity‑level information, and support treasury and funding activities. • Process Improvement and Optimization: Identify and implement reporting and process improvements, ensuring proportionality to value and risk and delivering initiatives independently within tight deadlines. • S/4 Transformation & Next‑Gen ERP Readiness: Support preparation for the S/4 Next Generation Enterprise ERP and S/4 Group Reporting (GR) / Local Statutory Reporting (LSR). Contribute to the design of core Finance processes for S/4, working closely with the S/4 project team and Centres of Excellence (CoE) to ensure solutions are effective, compliant, and deliver tangible business value. • Team Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Support effective teamwork within a flat structure, optimize resource utilization during peak periods, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders including auditors, Finance Manager, Commercial, Tax, and Treasury. • Knowledge Retention: Develop and sustain knowledge retention and keep abreast of accounting and business developments.

What   you bring

• Degree in Accounting or Finance with a professional qualification (MIA/ACCA/CIMA/ACA or equivalent) • At least 5–8 years of relevant working experience. • Strong financial accounting, reporting, and controls knowledge; able to execute processes independently with high compliance standards. • Hands on experience with complex ERP systems (e.g., SAP, PB7, Blackline, S4) is an advantage. • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data and communicate clear insights to finance and non‑finance stakeholders. • Resilient under time pressure, able to prioritize multiple demands with strong attention to detail. • Demonstrated growth and improvement mindset and experience driving process improvements. • Strong stakeholder engagement, interpersonal, influencing, and collaboration skills, with a strong “first‑time‑right” and compliance mindset. • Ability to work independently even when there is ambiguity or change
