About the role
πEindhoven HQ (3 days in office) | ποΈ 40hrs per week
π This is what you tell people at parties
We didn't become Europe's leading e-commerce shipping platform by playing it safe. Sendcloud powers 30,000+ online retailers, marketplaces, and fulfillment companies. Helping them ship smarter, grow faster, and actually get shit done for their customers. Boring logistics? Not here. We're building the platform that solves shipping, at scale, globally!
As an Engineering Manager, you'll lead one or more feature teams building the product experiences, integrations, and capabilities that help merchants run their shipping operations with less friction and more control. You'll sit at the intersection of Engineering, Product, and Design, turning complex customer and logistics problems into reliable, scalable, high-impact solutions β and you'll do it by building healthy, high-performing teams that balance strong delivery ownership with real engineering quality.
Role Description
β’ As the Engineering Manager, you're responsible for the people, delivery, technical health, and operational ownership of one or more feature teams within Sendcloud Engineering.
β’ Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you partner closely with Product Managers, Designers, senior engineers, Platform teams, and other stakeholders to define team goals, shape priorities, and deliver meaningful product outcomes for customers.
β’ Your mission is to create an environment where engineers do their best work, teams have clarity and ownership, and delivery stays predictable without compromising quality, reliability, or long-term maintainability.
β’ You lead through context, coaching, and accountability β helping the team understand the "why," challenging priorities when needed, removing blockers, and making sure what you build scales with the business.
π― What you'll do
β’
Strategy & Organisation
Translate Product and Tech strategy into clear team goals, improve team structure and ways of working, and keep the team aligned with engineering standards and organisational priorities.
β’
People & Hiring
Lead, coach, and develop engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, performance management, career development, hiring, onboarding, and retention.
β’
Delivery & Execution
Own end-to-end delivery for your team(s), manage scope and risks, remove blockers, and drive predictable execution without compromising quality.
β’
Cross-Functional Alignment
Act as the main engineering partner for Product and Design, co-own planning and prioritisation, challenge decisions constructively, and communicate progress and risks clearly to stakeholders.
β’
Technical Direction & Quality
Partner with senior engineers to guide architecture, engineering standards, code quality, documentation, test automation, and technical debt management.
β’
Operational Excellence
Ensure the team owns its services in production, including observability, incident management, post-mortems, runbooks, SLOs, security, privacy, and compliance-related work.
β’
Continuous Improvement
Use team metrics, delivery insights, incidents, and retrospectives to improve team performance, collaboration, reliability, and engineering effectiveness.
β’
Budget & Cost Awareness
Manage team-level tool, activity, and cloud/resource usage responsibly, and propose investments where they create clear value for the team or business.
Personally
β’ You are
clear, direct and empathetic
β you know how to give honest feedback without creating fear, and how to support people without avoiding accountability.
β’ You are
structured and calm under pressure
, able to manage competing priorities, delivery risks, people topics, and stakeholder expectations without creating chaos for the team.
β’ You are
comfortable with ambiguity
β you don't wait for perfect instructions, you create clarity, align people, and move things forward.
β’ You have
high ownership and low ego
β you care more about solving the problem than being right, and you lead by example in how you communicate, collaborate, and make decisions.
β’ You are motivated by
building strong teams
, developing engineers, improving systems, and helping people do meaningful work at scale.
β’ You are
energised by turning customer problems into product outcomes
, bringing a strong sense of ownership, urgency, and pragmatism to solutions that are simple, scalable, and impactful.
Professionally
β’ You have
7+ years of experience in software engineering or engineering leadership
, including at least
3 years in Engineering Management
.
β’ You have managed engineers directly, including
coaching, feedback, performance management, career development, promotions, and retention
.
β’ You have experience managing teams of around
10+ people
or a comparable scope across multiple teams, projects, or technical domains.
β’ You have worked in an engineering organisation with at least
50+ engineers
and understand the coordination, communication, and scaling challenges that come with that environment.
β’ You have a strong background in
software engineering and product development
, with enough technical depth to challenge decisions, support senior engineers, and reason about architecture, quality, and operational trade-offs.
β’ You have proven experience partnering with
Product Management, Design, and cross-functional stakeholders
to define priorities, manage scope, and deliver customer and business impact.
β’ You have experience driving
delivery, execution, and continuous improvement
in engineering teams, ideally in Agile or iterative product development environments.
β’ You have experience with
hiring, interviewing, and developing engineering talent
, and you know what good looks like for strong engineering teams.
β’ You understand
production ownership
, including incident management, observability, runbooks, operational excellence, security, and privacy-aware development practices.
β’ You communicate fluently in
English
, both written and spoken, and can adapt your message to engineers, Product stakeholders, senior leadership, and non-technical audiences.
β€οΈ Our Values
β’
π© No bullshit
Big egos suck. Be open, honest and transparent. Share your mistakes openly and learn from them. Don't just talk about problems, solve them.
β’
